Cactus Leather: Everything You Need To Know

As the UK’s first high-end, mens Cactus leather loafer brand, we thought maybe now is a better time than any to share some information on Cactus leather, why we are using it, why it’s so good, and what it means for the future of footwear and leather goods.

To begin with, “what is Cactus leather?” Cactus material, also called “nopal” leather, is the world's first highly sustainable and environmentally friendly organic material made of Nopal cactus, also known as the prickly pear. Produced in a large variety of colours, thicknesses and textures, cactus leather can exceed the demands of an ever-evolving industry. It has a lovely soft texture, similar to that of caviar grain leather, and is supple but strong. It is also known for being very breathable and praised by industry experts for its ability to offer the luxury market with an animal leather alternative. Which makes sense, as it shares many characteristics to that of traditional high quality animal leathers, but with an overwhelming number of benefits.

Here are a list of a few benefits of using Cactus leather:

  • Cactus is entirely natural, organic and sustainable

  • 14 acres of cacti plants are able to absorb 8,100 tons of CO2 from our atmosphere annually

  • Historically vegan leathers like Faux leathers containing high levels of PVC have been chemically toxic to the environment. Cactus leathers isn’t

  • Cactus leather shares a number a similarities to animal leather, creating great lasting products without the environmental damages

  • It is cruelty-free

  • Doesn’t use pesticides or herbicides

  • Is easy to clean and very hard to stain

  • Is bacteria resistant

  • Is highly breathable

  • Has great humidity control

  • Strong, tensile and durable

  • Very comfortable

So “what does all this mean for you and the future of footwear?” It means that the fashion industry and fashion brands like us, can continue to develop high quality products for all customers whilst preserving and protecting the environment. Our products, look, feel, smell and act like traditional animal leather loafers, but are much better thanks to additional benefits from Cactus leather, and the positive environmental impact.

High-end leather alternatives are now being adopted by Gucci, Adidas, BMW and Hermes. Proving that this new innovative material will soon become commonplace in the high-end designers fashion space.
